Super Visa and Visitor Visa

Whether you want your parents to stay for up to five years at a time on a Super Visa, or you need a standard visitor visa for a wedding, vacation or business trip, we prepare applications that anticipate the questions a visa officer will actually ask.

What's the Difference Between a Super Visa and a Visitor Visa?

A standard Temporary Resident Visa, or visitor visa, usually allows stays of up to six months per entry and can be single or multiple entry. A Super Visa is a special, multiple-entry visa specifically for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents, and it allows a stay of up to five years at a time without needing to renew status from within Canada.
Both are visitor category applications, but they are assessed differently, a Super Visa needs proof of a genuine invitation, a minimum income test for the host, and mandatory medical insurance, while a standard visitor visa is judged mainly on ties to the home country and the credibility of the travel plan.

Who Is Eligible?

Factor Typical Requirement
Super Visa Relationship Parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
Super Visa Income Test Host in Canada must meet the Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) for their family size
Super Visa Insurance Minimum 100,000 CAD in Canadian medical insurance valid for at least one year
Visitor Visa Ties Evidence of stable ties to the home country, such as employment, property or family
Visitor Visa Purpose Clear, credible reason for travel, family visit, tourism, business, or a specific event
Both Valid passport and proof of sufficient funds for the trip

FAQS

Super Visa and Visitor Visa Questions

How long can my parents stay in Canada on a Super Visa?

+

Up to five years per entry without having to renew their status from within Canada, and the visa itself can remain valid for up to ten years, subject to passport validity and the insurance staying in force.

What income do I need to sponsor my parents for a Super Visa?

+

You need to meet the Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) for your family size, which includes your parents once they arrive. We will calculate the current threshold for your household and help you document it properly.

Why do visitor visa applications get refused so often?

+

Most refusals come down to the officer not being convinced the applicant will leave Canada at the end of their stay. Weak proof of ties to the home country, unclear travel purpose, or inconsistent financial documents are the usual reasons, and these are exactly what we focus on.

Can I apply for a Super Visa if I was refused a regular visitor visa before?

+

Yes, a previous refusal does not automatically disqualify a Super Visa application, but we will review the earlier refusal reasons carefully so the same issues do not repeat.

Does a visitor visa allow my parents to work or study in Canada?

+

No. Both the Super Visa and a standard visitor visa are for visiting only, not for work or study. Separate permits are needed if they want to do either while in Canada.
