Express Entry 2026: New Categories and October CRS Scores
Short answer: In 2026, Canada added new Express Entry categories for physicians, researchers and senior managers with Canadian work experience, transport occupations and skilled military recruits. As of October 26, 2026, IRCC had held five draws in October, with CRS cutoffs of 435 for French speakers, 476 for trades, 519 for the Canadian Experience Class and 761โ772 for provincial nominees. Bigger changes to how CRS points are awarded start on November 3, 2026.
If you are planning permanent residence in Canada, these changes matter. This guide explains what changed, what the latest scores mean and what you can do next. All figures come from official Government of Canada sources, and each one is dated.
What changed in Express Entry in 2026?
On February 18, 2026, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced the 2026 Express Entry categories (IRCC news release). The new categories are:
- Physicians (foreign medical doctors) with Canadian work experience, first announced in December 2025
- Researchers with Canadian work experience
- Senior managers with Canadian work experience
- Transport occupations, such as pilots, aircraft mechanics and inspectors
- Skilled military recruits hired by the Canadian Armed Forces, such as military doctors, nurses and pilots
IRCC also said it would keep holding rounds for French-language proficiency, healthcare and social services, and trades. Its category-based selection page now lists 10 current categories, including STEM and education occupations. For a full breakdown of who qualifies for each one, see our guide to Canada’s Express Entry 2026 categories.
In simple words: Canada is focusing more on people with specific skills, especially people who already work in Canada.
What were the Express Entry draws in October 2026?
According to IRCC’s official rounds data (checked October 26, 2026), these were the October 2026 draws:

Why are some category CRS cutoffs so much lower?
Each draw type only ranks a certain group of people. That’s why you should only compare a cutoff with past draws of the same type.
For example, the general Canadian Experience Class draw on October 15, 2026 needed a CRS score of 519. The physicians draw on September 3, 2026 went down to 198, and the senior managers draw on September 16, 2026 went down to 389. These lower scores are possible because far fewer candidates qualify for those categories.
PNP draws look very high (772 on October 13 and 761 on October 26, 2026) because a provincial nomination adds 600 CRS points (IRCC CRS criteria). Our article on what CRS score you need for Canada PR in 2026 explains how the score is built.
What changes on November 3, 2026?
On October 16, 2026, IRCC announced changes to the Comprehensive Ranking System that take effect on November 3, 2026 (IRCC news release, IRCC details):
- A new Labour Market Integration factor gives up to 150 points for either Canadian work experience (with extra points for work in eligible high-wage occupations) or a qualifying job offer in an eligible high-wage occupation, but not both.
- A labour market impact assessment (LMIA) will no longer be required for a qualifying job offer.
- Profiles already in the pool will be recalculated automatically. This may take up to two weeks, and invitation rounds will be paused during that time.
- If you want points for a qualifying job offer, IRCC says you must update your profile with the required information before November 3.
This means the CRS cutoffs above may not be directly comparable with draws held after the change.
Who benefits most from the 2026 Express Entry changes?
Based on the 2026 categories and recent draws, these groups may have more options:
- People already working in Canada. Physicians, researchers and senior managers need Canadian work experience for their categories, and Canadian Experience Class draws continued regularly.
- French speakers. French-language draws invited 5,000 people on both October 16, 2026 and August 19, 2026.
- Skilled trades and healthcare workers. These categories stayed in place for 2026, with 3,500 invitations each in the October 1 trades draw and the September 4 healthcare draw.
- Provincial nominees, including people nominated through Ontario’s OINP. See our overview of OINP 2026 changes.
For the occupation-based categories, IRCC asks for at least 12 months of full-time work (or an equal amount of part-time work) in an eligible job within the past 3 years. Always check the exact rules for your category on IRCC’s page.
How can I improve my CRS score in 2026?
There is no shortcut, but these are common, legal ways to raise your score under IRCC’s CRS rules:
- Retake your language test. Higher scores in English or French can add many points.
- Add French. Strong French can add up to 50 extra points and makes you eligible for French-language draws.
- Get Canadian work experience. It adds points, may open new 2026 categories and, from November 3, 2026, can earn extra points in high-wage occupations.
- Look at provincial programs. A nomination adds 600 points.
- Check your spouse’s profile. Their language, education and Canadian work experience can change your total.
- Keep your profile accurate. Wrong information can lead to a refusal or a ban for misrepresentation.
Use IRCC’s official CRS tool to estimate your score.
What should I do next if I am in Toronto or abroad?
Whether you are in Toronto on a work or study permit, or planning from India, start with a clear review of your profile:
- Check which Express Entry program and category you may qualify for.
- Compare your CRS score with recent draws of the same type.
- Plan your next step: a language retest, a provincial program or more work experience.

On February 18, 2026, IRCC announced categories for physicians, researchers and senior managers with Canadian work experience, transport occupations and skilled military recruits.
What was the latest Express Entry CRS cutoff?
The latest round we checked was #451, a Provincial Nominee Program draw on October 26, 2026, with a cutoff of 761 and 792 invitations. The latest Canadian Experience Class draw, on October 15, 2026, had a cutoff of 519, and the latest French-language draw, on October 16, 2026, had a cutoff of 435.
How often does IRCC hold Express Entry draws?
IRCC says it invites top candidates about every 2 weeks. It held 5 draws in October 2026 up to October 26. Rounds will be paused for up to two weeks while scores are recalculated after the November 3, 2026 changes.
Can I get Express Entry without a job offer?
Yes. A job offer is not required for most Express Entry candidates. Your CRS score and your eligibility for a program or category decide whether you are invited. From November 3, 2026, a qualifying job offer in an eligible high-wage occupation can add CRS points, and an LMIA will no longer be needed for it.
Can an immigration consultant guarantee my PR?
No. Licensed consultants (RCICs) can help you prepare a strong, accurate application, but only IRCC decides. You can check any consultant’s licence on the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC) public register.
